Warmer Weather Coming In.....Get out on Clear Creek...

Two of us anglers were out west of Idaho Springs on Monday and got into fish right off the bat at about 9am. We started with nymph rigs featuring Frenchies, Rainbow Warriors, RS 2's and other standard droppers in the16-20 range. After some good fishing, we noticed risers on some of the pools and went immediately to size 18 BWO's and Blue Duns and were able to nab a few for the next couple hours.

One angler was even able to hook a couple fish on a size 18 Yellow Humpy after fish were striking hard at the indicators.

Clear Creek has finally gotten consistent good reports from both customers visiting the shop and other anglers.

With the warm weather predicted for the weekend, there is no reason to drive very far as the Creek is almost 100% running and almost totally free of ice in spots. Get out there close to home and have a blast!

Fly Fishing in Colorado is picking up!!

Around the State the weather seems to be cooperating and offering great days on the rivers and streams. More creeks are starting to flow like Bear Creek and Clear Creek is starting to pick up as well. We have had great days on the South Platte in the Canyon and the crowds have not been bad during the week.

South Boulder Creek below Gross Res. has seen some great days with blue wing olives and has offered some of the season's beginning dry fly fishing.

Reports from the Colorado, Blue, Arkansas and further like the Roaring Fork are good and anglers are hooking up with fish on a regular basis. Whether you are fishing close to home or venturing further, the season has definitely arrived....

Get out and go fishing.....

Spring-like conditions in Cheesman Canyon....

This week we ventured into Cheesman Canyon and with the warmer weather, the fishing did not disappoint. Arriving at the river at about 9am we found fish already actively feeding in tail-outs and slower runs and we were quick to start hooking fish as the air and water temps were already pretty high. We saw two hatches one early and one midday with rising fish during the midday hatch. This angler was able to land a few risers on small blue/gray dun patterns in a size 18, all browns about 13 inches.

A great day down in the canyon and little traffic, makes us wish for more warmer weather. Still expect nymphing to be productive 80% of the time but keep your eyes peeled for rising fish in various smaller runs.

Effective Patterns: Barr's Emerger, 20, UV RS II in olive, black or tan, 20/22/24, Rainbow Warrior, 20, Any smaller midge pattern in black or red, 22/24, Sparkle wing RS II, 22

The Dream Stream....

Fished the Dream Stream this past week and it was definitely early for the lake run rainbows but a beautiful day just the same. We were the third car in the parking lot at 7am during the week but at lunch, the lot was filled with 25 cars by 11am.

Egg patterns were working as well as some heavier nymphs fished close to the bottom. We saw surface action during a prolific hatch mid-afternoon but were unable to land any risers.

Keep your eyes on the flow in South Park and keep your rod ready for the rainbows.....

Got a few picks of The h2o yesterday. Fishing was slow for everyone. I hooked into a few but landed 0 .... still o.k. flows are great and the Rainbows are all turning a light green color maybe pre-spawn or just stocked, made them easy to see. UV Sparkle wing RS2 and emergers (tan,grey, black). We had a hatch going and a few risers the bugs looked almost like caddis ( Tannish color size 16 would be close, Not midges)and were everywhere but the wind was gusting strong 20's or so. Made the fishing rough. High temp of 44F on the water patchy clouds. Saw some risers close to the rocks eating in regular patterns and had black adult midges clinging for dear life to my waders trying not to get blown away.

Early Season Fly Fishing Close to Golden...

South Boulder Creek is up and running (152 cfs) and is producing fish on a variety of nymphs fished in the pocket water... This angler spent 3hours today on the water and was able to hook and land about a half-dozen fish while missing a few others...

South Boulder Creek is one of the Front Range's treasures and if you have not tried fishing this local tail water, you ought to get out there if you have half a day or a few hours to spare.

Effective patterns: Rainbow Warrior, 20, Soft Hackle Sow Bug, 22, RS II Olive and Blue, 22, Ray Charles, 20

Clear Creek back on the rise

Hey everybody...I was just noticing that the flows on Clear Creek are back on the rise again...looks like we're going to have wait just a bit longer until those Golden Stones start hatching. I'm going to post some picks of a recent seine I did halfway up the canyon. Lots of Stones, Caddis, and big mayflies...stay tuned!!!

Just wanted to give a quick update for the Clear Creek Fishing Report.

The whole stretch still seems to be fishing well from Idaho Springs all the way to the Golden Whitewater Park. Great reports are coming in from those using dries, nymphs, and streamers. At this point, most fish are done spawning, but please be mindful of fish on redds. Most of the flies you want to be using right now should be smaller--midges, baetis, and small streamers.

Just wanted to give a quick update for the Clear Creek Fishing Report.

The whole stretch seems to be fishing well from Idaho Springs all the way to the Golden Whitewater Park. Great reports are coming in from those using dries, nymphs, and streamers. This is the time of year when fish are spawning, so beware of fish sitting on redds. This is also the time of year when all species get very aggressive in pursuit of forage before a long, cold winter.
